The practice of mindfulness is catching on more and more in schools

It may be a surprise to some to hear that mindfulness is now being taught in schools but when you sit and think about it, school children are now exposed to many pressures in an increasingly pressurised and competitive society. Many recent studies have shown depression and self-harming numbers are rising steeply, particularly among teenagers along with the often less obvious cases of stress and anxiety related conditions such as eating disorders. The Autumn/Winter of schoolhouse magazine highlights this increasing trend and shows how mindfulness is being successfully used to help students declutter their brains, respond more skilfully to negative thoughts and emotions, and focus calmly on the present.
